CGC/Trick Dog Evaluations


As of February 2025 I became a CGC/Trick Dog evaluator. I will be offering Evaluations for all 3 levels of CGC, trick dog, and virtual Home Manners titles. Below is a Description about each one and what it takes to achieve one of these titles! At this time I will not be hosting S.T.A.R puppy classes. Canine Good Citizen

Canine Good Citizen is a 10-skill test that teaches good manners to dogs and responsible dog ownership to their owners. There are 3 levels of this title, Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Advanced Canine Good Citizen (CGCA), and Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU). Below are the test items to the first level, the CGC.

  1. Accepting a friendly stranger

  2. Sitting politely for petting

  3. Grooming and appearance 

  4. Out for a walk (on a loose leash)

  5. Walking through a crowd

  6. Sit, down, and stay on cue

  7. Coming when called

  8. Reaction to another dog

  9. Reaction to distraction

  10. Supervised separation

Trick Dog

The trick dog titles can be the most fun to do with your dogs and bond over! There are 5 different levels of trick dog you can try. There is novice (TKN), intermediate (TKI), advanced (TKA), performer (TKP), and elite performance (TKE). Below are some tricks you can do to earn your novice title! 

You will need to complete either 10 tricks or 5 tricks + your CGC

  • Balance beam (walk on board a few inches off floor)  

  • Bark on cue (“Speak”) 

  • Crawl (dog on belly, crawls at least 3 body lengths) 

  • Fetch it (ball, etc., 10 ft. away, bring to handler within 2 ft)

  • Find it (find treat or scent item hidden under 1 cup or object)

  • Get your _______. (Leash, brush, name of toy)

  • Get in (gets in box)

  • Sits in box (on cue)

  • Get on (gets on low platform or step - 4 paws)

  • Hand signals (Choose one: down, sit, or come) 

  • High five 

  • Hold (3 seconds) 

  • Jump (thru a low hoop or over a low bar) 

  • Kennel up (go in crate, stay in until released) 

  • Kiss (point to cheek or back of hand) 

  • Paws up (2 front paws on low stool or step) 

  • Push-ups (sit, down, sit, down, sit, down) 

  • Shake hands 

  • Spin in circle 

  • Touch it (hand or target stick) 

  • Tunnel (agility tunnel or child’s tunnel)

Virtual Home Manner

The evaluation of a dog’s ability to perform ten home manners skills will be done by a video recording. Two levels of Home Manners will be offered – Virtual Home Manners Puppy (VHMP) and Virtual Home Manners Adult (VHMA). Dogs that pass the tests will be awarded these titles. Below are items from the Puppy evaluation.

1. Allows owner to pet (head/chin, shoulders, back) 

2. Grooming - brushing by owner (back/chest) 

3. Sit on command - can use lure

4. Down on command - can use lure 

5. Comes when called - from 10 ft in house 

6. Go to place - stay 15 seconds  7. House-trained - owner attests, describes training 

8. Demonstrates relationship Plays indoors - w/ family member/owner (Choose 1: gets stuffed animal, ball, simple trick, preferred game, etc.) 

9. Out for a walk - outside on leash (straight line - 20 ft)

10. Exercise outside - w/ family member/owner (fetch toy, chase, swims, run with owner)
